It’s an excursion. But contrary to what the title might suggest, we’re not venturing into the depths (or heights) of an imaginary temple, but first and foremost into harmonious realms that we haven’t yet heard from Dominik Vogel in this lyrical, playful style. At least not here on der kleine grüne Würfel.
That said: A certain playfulness is, after all, inherent in the process when the music is recorded in a single take using a modular system. No two runs are the same. Knobs can only be set to exact values to a limited extent. The wiring exists only for the current piece and is changed again afterward. So far, so familiar, so well-known.
But something is different this time. A strangely intertwined harmonic web seems to run through the album. Or does it perhaps wind its way through that ominous temple? Melodies twist around each other in counterpoint, meandering here and there, surfacing and then subsiding again. Is this a musical gateway to a dream world? Have we already stepped through it? When will the spell release us?
Unfortunately, much too soon—but then again, not too long either. Just right, in other words. We recommend listening to the album through headphones while taking a short walk. And who knows— maybe it will open your eyes to the unknown within the familiar. That would be something.
